Message from the Headmaster, Adam Rohdie

From the moment you step onto the campus, you are sure to feel it. It's the collective energy of 870 students added to the enthusiasm and expertise of 203 members of the faculty and staff. It's a unique atmosphere of warmth, safety, and vibrancy. You can sense it when you walk across our stunning 80-acre campus, when you glance into our expertly equipped classrooms, and when you observe our students at work and at play.

At the heart of The Greenwich Country Day School mission is the belief that we will "enable all children in our care to discover and develop what is finest in themselves--to achieve high standards in their studies, in their play, and in their character." We are most proud of our exceptional teachers, the enablers of these goals. GCDS was founded in 1926 by three mothers who sought superior teachers who could guide their children to the full realization of their potential. That dream shapes our decisions every day. Those mothers would be gratified to know how seriously we take our mission statement. They would be proud to know that our graduates include a Metropolitan Opera soloist, an internationally known author, a White House Chief of Protocol, an Olympic athlete, and a President of the United States.

I encourage you to walk through our halls and ask lots of questions. Be sensitive to the vibrations of creativity, discovery, happiness, and cooperation as you go. You will see that what makes GCDS such a great institution is our commitment to educating the whole child. We pledge to provide for all our students both academic rigor and guidance in the development of a fine moral compass. William Butler Yeats must have had GCDS in mind when he wrote, "Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire."
