When I was in high school, I memorized a Theodore Roosevelt quote that is stamped on a statue at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. Roosevelt talks about giving credit to those who are “actually in the arena.”
Sports teach us so much about our world and about ourselves. At GCDS, we have achieved that perfect balance of being highly competitive in everything we do (and achieving great success as we do it) yet not selling out to the temptation of letting an athletic program drive the overall program. While we will always strive to win, we will count sportsmanship over goals, teamwork over three pointers, and resilience over trophies. As you watch this video of our recent trip to the U.S. Squash Nationals in New Haven, you will see exactly what I mean. Congratulations to the boys and girls who competed! Seeing their success, the future is incredibly bright for the launch of our high school athletic program in September!
