At GCDS, students are encouraged to be innovative risk-takers in a Visual Arts program that promotes rigor and reflection.
From Nursery through Grade 12, growth in the Visual Arts is achieved through unbridled creativity and experimentation, coupled with sustained effort over time. Whether exploring a new medium for the first time or pursuing a passion through more advanced study, students grow in both confidence and proficiency as they become keen observers of themselves and the world around them.
Beginning in the Lower Elementary School through more advanced courses at the Upper School, our Visual Arts program focuses on key principles of design, elements of color theory, and the tools and skills to transform students’ observations and ideas into finished work.
To foster interdisciplinary learning, assignments and themes addressed in this course often align to the project-based curriculum offered in students' other academic coursework.
