First Day of School

Greenwich Country Day School (GCDS) opens its doors Sept. 3 for a historic milestone: the beginning of its centennial academic year. Founded on a bold educational vision, GCDS has grown into a nationally recognized institution serving 1,450 students from Nursery through Grade 12.

Founded on the principle of mobilizing children's natural curiosity, GCDS has spent a century preparing students to pursue purpose-driven lives, take pride in their unique abilities, and unlock infinite possibilities for impact. This approach has prepared graduates for success across all endeavors, including countless leaders in public service, business, the arts, and athletics.

"Our core mission has remained constant for 100 years—enabling all students to discover and develop what is finest in themselves," said Adam Rohdie, Head of School. "We've created a learning environment where students move beyond simply acquiring knowledge to applying what they've learned to address real-world challenges."

In the last decade, GCDS launched a forward-thinking high school program that challenges students to both acquire and create knowledge. The centennial year will feature special celebrations, including Homecoming/Walkathon/Reunion Weekend (Oct. 10-12) and the Inaugural GCDS Athletics Hall of Fame.

"With unmatched facilities, stellar faculty, and an educational approach designed to cultivate purpose-driven leaders, GCDS is well positioned for the next century of impact," Rohdie added.
